Learning vs. Online Learning |
|
There is a significant
difference between Online Learning and Distance Education.
Distance Education is at its core, self-paced independent
study delivered in many different forms. postal mail,
electronic mail, online, video, etc.
Online Learning
involves a cohort of learners progressing through a
curriculum together. Communicating asynchronously.

Tuition
Virtual
High School – This school is actually a collaboration
of schools offering courses online. To participate, the school must
pay 6000 for the first course they offer and 4000 for each additional.
The fees gain them 20 student seats during the fall and spring semester.
This is one of the few "bulk fee" offerings.
The Following fees are listed per student/ per course unless otherwise
noted.
Kentucky VHS
– 275 Semester / 500 year (very well developed program)
Michigan VHS
– 250-350 depending on course type
Florida VHS
– out of state 700-900 (375-400 semester/ 750-800 yr) – residents
= free
Virtual
High School (Canada)– 395/ course
Illinois
VHS – 175/ semester 350/year
Keystone
(Bloomsburg, PA) -- eSchool 399 / Correspondence. 199
Prince
Williams County (Virginia) – 425 resident / 570 non
Clintondale
Community Schools (Michigan) – 325/ course
University California
College Prep – Offers college prep courses to students
of “qualified schools” in which the student would not normally receive
such courses. Courses are free of charge.
Nevada VHS
– White Pine County School District – 3,400/ yr.
Visions
– provided through a charter school of San Juan Unified School District
Wisconsin VHS
– 325/ course
Eagle
Christian (Montana )-- 275/ class p/t – 850/ semester
full time (6 courses)
Choice2000 (Perris,
CA) – free in certain counties – outside 175/ 9 week “quadmesters”
– students must log-in everyday to be counted for ADA – Students from
other counties IN CA are prohibited? They also offer some self-paced
electives. “Most students also take community college classes”
Laurel
Springs (Ojai, CA ) – 345 for tuition and then 35 extra
per student.
