Research Paper - 100 pts

You need to critique three teacher websites. These are websites put up by teachers for their students or parents, not websites for teachers.
Choose websites that are targeted for similar subject and grade level that you teach or want to teach. Tell me what you like about them, don't like about them, and what you would do differently.

The objective of this assignment is to raise your awareness about the possibilities of using a website effectively.

PowerPoint - 100 pts

Create a lesson to teach with.

Publisher - 100 pts

You will be creating an example for your students. Publisher offers creativity not available in Microsoft Word. By creating an example brochure, menu, newsletter, etc., your students can see an alternative way to present their learning of a subject. Publisher is a very easy program to use and the creative possibilities can be a lot of fun.

The requirements are to create either a brochure, a menu, or a newsletter using both sides a standard 8 1/2 by 11 piece of paper. Depending on your page setup this could be 2, 4, or 6 Publisher pages. (The pages would just be different sizes)
The objective of this assignment is to learn the basics of Publisher and to learn how Publisher may be used in the teaching profession.

Word - 100 pts (2 assignments 50 pts each)

There are two assignments for Word. The first one is to create a password protected form for either students or parents to fill out.
The second is save an existing Word document as a web page to be used on your web site.

Web site (FrontPage) - 100 pts

You will be creating a web site. Please focus on either students or parents, not both. Use what you have learned from critiquing other sites to help you decide what you want to do and how it should look. The web site should either help you teach or help you manage the job of teaching.

The objective of this assignment is to learn the basics of building a web site and explore the possible ways it may be used.

Excel - 50 pts

Students often have a difficult time visualizing data. You will be creating a chart to help your students visualize data in an appropriate way for your targeted subject and grade level.
The objective of this assignment is to learn the basics of Excel and chart creation in Excel to help students visualize data.

Teaching a lesson - 100 pts

Seeing what others have done is tremendously valuable. The presentation will be the PowerPoint that you created earlier. The presentations should be in the neighborhood of 10 to15 minutes in length. We are your class. You need to introduce yourself and let us know who we are (4th graders, 9th grade English, etc.).

The objective of this assignment is for you to experience teaching with the PowerPoint you created. You will learn what works and what doesn't work.
